Chotrul Duchen, 2009: The Display of Miracles

Chotrul Duchen falls on Wednesday, March 11, 2009. On this day, we believe that the effects of positive or negative actions are multiplied ten million times. The commemorated event stems from a circumstance in which the leaders of India's six principal philosophical schools challenged Buddha to a contest. Buddha displayed a different miracle each day for fifteen days, defeating his opponents, and inspiring many to embrace the Dharma. Today is reckoned as the final day of the fifteen. This year, March 11th is also the anniversary of Garab Dorje, and Marpa Lotsawa (1012-1097, depicted above in a 12th century rupa in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art: possibly the earliest known likeness).

Today is also a very good day to sign the petition Dzongsar Khyentse Rinpoche has requested for the Dharma Translation Conference in Bir, India.
