Thinley Norbu Rinpoche Draws Thousands in Bhutan

As the photo shows, tens of thousands turned out for the empowerment given by Dungse Thinley Norbu Rinpoche at the Royal Bhutan Police ground in Thimphu last week.

Thinley Norbu Rinpoche, an eminent teacher of the authentic Nyingma School of Tibetan Buddhism, is in Bhutan on a month-long visit with his two sons, daughter and 28 disciples. On October 11, Rinpoche performed Threma Tshokhor at the Thimphu Memorial Chorten.

Rinpoche is the son of the late Supreme Head of the Nyingma School, His Holiness Dudjom Rinpoche, and father of Dzongsar Jamyang Khyentse Rinpoche, and Garab Rinpoche.  He is the author of the immensely popular books Magic Dance, and Cascading Waterfall of Nectar, among others. He last visited Bhutan in 1994.

People are always writing in, complaining that it is difficult to see Thinley Norbu. I always respond that this is not true. You can see for yourself, above.

Rinpoche and his entourage will leave Bhutan on November 10, so you have plenty of time to go over. Then again, this doesn't necessarily mean you will always have the opportunity.

However the man wants to express his name, if it makes him happy, why do I care?
