While what Tsem Tulku has to say is often spot on, I find his "Richard Simmons" delivery very embarrassing and way too exaggerated and effeminate. Why does he find this kind of grotesque delivery necessary? Is someone slipping him estrogen?
Skillful means is skillful means Hamish. How rare to find pure dharma taught in away that even youngsters like me, who might find a 'traditional style' alienating, can very much appreciate and learn from.
Maybe Tsem Rinpoche's style is not for everyone, but for some of us who would prefer entertainment to dharma, Rinpoche combines the two for the sake of our easily distracted minds. (at least in my case ;d)
Hamish, this is an old video made when he was younger. If you see his more recent ones, he's calmed down quite a bit. He really does appeal to that sector of humanity that otherwise wouldn't be interested in Dharma at all.
I thoroughly enjoyed this video on several levels, although like Hamish, I felt his delivery was overly exaggerated. However, that being said, there was a gentleness to it that softened the blow. My own teacher used to go on violent tirades, screaming, turning red in the face, literally frothing sometimes -- he was not beyond smacking whoever was handy -- and it was more or less in the same vein as Tsem Tulku's criticism of mindless ass-kissing and We're So Holy. I think the Neon Lama's students are very lucky that he tells them the truth, because so many guys around today will just pick your pocket and then let you do whatever you please. On balance, Tsem Tulku didn't say anything that I don't agree with 100%, and he said it a whole lot more politely than I would.

Love it! Tsem tells it like it is. Thanks for posting that.
