Weekly Tibetan Astrology: June 28 - July 4, 2010

NOTE: The environmental disaster in the Gulf of Mexico is bringing the cranks and doomsayers out of the woodwork, and I do not want to be another one of them. However, I do wish to point out that well before this and other undersea disasters even occurred, the astrology was telling us -- and we were reporting here -- that there is an extreme danger associated with earthquakes and undersea geological disasters on the most terrible possible scale. Now it seems that science is catching up with astrology. The scientists are telling us that the situation in the Gulf is particularly volatile because that well is several miles down, and the oil is sitting on top of molten magma. If steam is created down there, it is going to lead to something nobody wishes to see or experience. In effect, we are talking about an "oil volcano" with its associated risks of toxic gases and tsunamis. I am not by nature an alarmist, but I would be less than candid if I told you I was not alarmed. I bring this up to explain why we need to pay special attention to fire/earth, water/earth, and water/fire situations coupled with movement of the earth spirits, nagas, and so forth. This is a very dangerous time. [We first published this on Thursday June 24th and have now re-dated it into our feed.]

June 28, 2010 - Chinese 17th, M-T-K 17th. Horse, Li, Black 2. Duplicated day in Chinese practice. Water Earth. Problematic day with unfavorable elements. Effects can be mitigated by joyous practice. Remember the nagas. Don't go out at night.

June 29, 2010 - Chinese 18th, M-T-K 18th. Sheep, Khon, Blue 3. Today is zin phung. Fire Earth moving to Fire Fire. While progress is possible, and while plans may come to fruition, there is obstruction from the elements. Today and twenty-four hours on either side are worth watching. Remember the nagas. Don't harm trees today.

June 30, 2010 - Chinese 19th, M-T-K 19th. Monkey, Dwa, Green 4. An excellent day to spend with friends. If you feel that you do not or cannot have any friends, then I will be your friend. Remember the nagas. Travel east today. Not bad for medical treatment.

July 1, 2010 - Chinese 20th, M-T-K 20th. Bird, Khen, Yellow 5. You can make a jewel offering today, if you can manage to get past the pettiness. I would encourage you to do both. Remember the nagas. Don't disturb the earth element. Usually, today would be good for important requests.

July 2, 2010 - Chinese 21st, M-T-K  21st. Dog, Kham, White 6. A positive day in most every respect, but surrounded, as it were. Not good for travel.

July 3, 2010 -  Chinese 22nd, M-T-K 22nd. Pig, Gin, Red 7. Earth Fire. Today is baden, so no flags. Highly obstructing energies. No offerings to nagas are possible today. Not good for travel. Avoid arguments. Good day for Vajrakilaya.

July 4, 2010 - Chinese 23rd, M-T-K 23rd. Mouse, Zin, White 8.  Highly obstructing energies. Failure of command resulting in disaster. Water Fire transiting into Water Fire tomorrow with zin phung. Indeed, the fifth and sixth do not look good. Make offerings to dharmapalas. Today is Independence Day in the United States, and is known as Tarthang Rinpoche's favorite holiday.

Naga observations for the fifth  month: Only one really good day this month --  lunar 15, but offerings also possible on 9, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 23, 25, 27.  Nine bad days -- 1, 2, 5, 6, 7, 10, 12, 16, 22.

  5. Regarding my preceding post, Lama Zopa Rinpoche, urges us to recite the Sutra of Golden Light for these reasons:

“The holy Golden Light Sutra is the king of the sutras. It is extremely powerful and fulfills all one's wishes, as well as bringing peace and happiness for all sentient beings, up to enlightenment. It is also extremely powerful for world peace, for your own protection, and for the protection of the country and the world. Also, it has great healing power for people in the country. ... Anyone can read this text, Buddhists and even non-Buddhists who desire world peace. This also protects individuals and the country from what are labeled natural disasters of the wind element, fire element, earth element, and water element, such as earthquakes, floods, cyclones, fires, tornadoes, etc. They are not natural because they come from causes and conditions that make dangers happen. They come from past inner negative thoughts and actions of people, and from external conditions. The benefits of reading this sutra are immeasurable ... reciting just a few lines of the Sutra of Golden Light creates more merit than making ... immeasurable offerings to the Buddha. Reciting this sutra directs one's life towards enlightenment. There is so much merit ... one's life becomes so easy, whatever one wishes for one receives ... there is unbelievable purification ... one liberates numberless sentient beings from the oceans of samsaric suffering and brings them to enlightenment.”

“The protectors, the guardians, will definitely provide protection. Whenever they are needed, they will arrive. Acts of terrorism will be averted. Acts of violence will stop. China will return to Buddhism and will relax its hold on Tibet. Natural catastrophes will be avoided. Crops will be successful. The environment will be clean. People will be safe. If there is war, it will end and there will be peace.

If you recite the Sutra of Golden Light, you will have good health, energy, and power. All materials needs will be satisfied. One will be listened to and respected by others. Whenever a question arises, the Guru will answer. One will purify eons of negative karma, meet perfect teachers, develop realizations, and definitely benefit others.

The Sutra of Golden Light is the car that will take you to enlightenment.”

  7. For those who may be interested as time is very short, one can sponsor ONLINE 300 or more recitations of the Golden Light Sutra to be recited at Chorten Gonpa in Sikkim. It may take a week or two for them perform the recitations, depending on the queue. Just use the link, and scroll down the webpage to item 59 for "Ser-od Nga-dra-ma(Golden Drum Sutra - which is another name for the Golden Light Sutra)" : http://www.mahasiddha.org/prayers/index.html

  8. Tenpa

Perhaps you could give here some instructions as to how we could practice the 21 Taras.

  9. Dear Tenpa, I really do Appreciate the depth of knowledge and sensitivity in your posts. I am also grateful for your offerings on astrology.
I agree that Tara is an appropriate practice for responding to the Gulf oilspill or any other disaster effecting human lives.
Reciting the 21 Praises while maintaining the right motivation, to benefit beings and protect them from harm is something any of us can do, (or so i have been told)

Complete practice with mandala offerings, tormas and visualizations should only be done by those who have taken refuge vows and recieved the Tara empowerment.

    A commentary here:

There is a practice called "Sampa Lhundrupma" which is to protect against danger from the elements. Ive been asked to say do this practice when wildfires threatened a dharma center in California
and when hurricanes threatened us here in Florida.

i would encourage any one interested to ask your Teacher, Lama or your favorite Ngakpa About the Sampa Lhundrupma.

And, I am a little skeptical about the idea of the oil resting in direct contact with magma. I have seen this claim floating around on the net, but not with any reputable experts talking about it.
Even now that the well is capped, there is danger or it reopening, and the oil will continue to contaminate our waters, ruin the fisheries, and pollute our nice beaches, but i don't think there is volcanic activity involved--I hope this is more than just me being hopeful-- I live on the shore.
