I love the idea about mentaly ill westerners - it is so true :)
ReplyDeleteAnd from the other side we can find very clear explanaitions for that. Even if the Nature of mind is the same clear and empty, how, we westerners can find this Nature to reside in? We must always be aware, that different social constructions of Western and Tibetan societies give different meanings to the words, practices and rituals, which should be seen as same at their root, but how to see that root if all your life is built on the illusion of creating the better world, the bigger skyscraper, getting the higer rank or the best money? This illness which makes our minds sick has a name - it is the limitless consumption, with the only slogan becoming the key of westerners life: work - buy - die!
The worst thing is that this infection spreads with a tremendous speed, involving not only westerners, but Tibetans too.. In this maddness of consumption one thing is forgotten - it is the Compassion.. Unfortunatelly less and less things are to be done just because of compassion and limitless love to all living beeings. I hope we can find some kind a vaccination to save those who are still left.. and to cure the ill ones..
