I agree. Some of these items may have been stolen when the Mongolian monasteries were sacked. Even worse, some may come from vandalized chortens.
Why would good practitioners want these things anyway? To paraphrase Bruce Newman, your Buddha nature is not old and dirty; it's clean, bright and new.
If we buy new things, we support the living craft tradition. If we buy old things, we may be supporting thieves and tomb robbers.
